recently, i finished to fantastic books from michael lewis.
the first book, Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World.
it deals with the whole financial, global recession. really, offers an interesting perspective. i would suggest you give it a read, it is pretty quick.
however, i was struck by the quote below from Isocrates:
" Democracy destroys itself because it abuses its right to freedom and equality. Because it teaches its citizens to consider audacity as a right, lawlessness as a freedom, abrasive speech as equality, and anarchy as progress"
i know that i have touched on that them a few times before, even on here. :) something we should all think about sometime.
the second book, Moneyball. i read this after i watched the movie, and yes all it does is verify the FACT that the book is ALWAYS better. but, whatever it takes to get people to read is fine with me.
and, i was struck by another line in the book, which is actually a rule that Billy Beane uses around the trade deadline.
"No matter how succesful you are, change is always good. There can never be a status quo. When you have no money you can't afford long-term solutions, only short-term ones. You have to always be upgrading. Otherwise, you're fucked."
this quote i think is something that everyone should be looking at, and evaluating how their life is applicable. and, yes it is. we always need to be improving and changes. to be static is to be dead.
i really suggest this book to everyone, even no baseball fans. it is about changing when you know the current way WILL NOT work.
enjoy both of these books.
